MINISTER HAILS CBC PARTNERSHIP
MIDLANDS Provincial Affairs and Devolution Minister Larry Mavima has commended the public and private partnership which established the Cattle Business Centre in Zhombe, Dendera.
In a speech read on his behalf by Provincial Agricultural Extension Officer Medlinah Magwenzi, the minister applauded the collaboration that brought in CBC which will benefit the Dendera community and the Province as whole.
“It is a great pleasure for me to be officiating at this important occasion, the official opening of the Dendera Cattle Business Centre.
“This Cattle Business Centre was established, by the Beef Enterprise Strengthening and Transformation (ZAGP-BEST) under the Zimbabwe Agricultural Growth Programme ZAGP.
“I am thrilled by this development which is directly contributing to the implementation of the Zimbabwe National Livestock Development Programme.
“As you are aware, livestock is a key primary source of livelihood for most of the Midlands’ households as they contribute significantly to household economic stability as a source of income, food, drought power and manure among other uses,” he said.
Furthermore, the Minister expressed government’s commitment towards partnering the public and private partnership for developmental initiatives.
“The Government of Zimbabwe’s commitment to develop the beef value chain is demonstrated by the promotion of Public Private Partnership (PPP) arrangements such as the one we are witnessing today.
“My office is committed to supporting this project and it is in this framework that we welcome similar initiatives that offer opportunities to a wide range of partners to contribute to the vision by His Excellency Cde Emmerson
Dambudzo Mnangagwa towards the attainment of an upper middle-income economy by the year 2030,” he said.
Meanwhile, BEST offered to give five bulls to the Dendera community to improve the cattle breed.
“We have realised that there is a problem of inbreeding which actually results in small breed of cattle so under this programme we have pledged to bring in new bulls to improve the breed,” said Johanis Chikarate, head of project BEST in Kwekwe District.
