- Latwell Nyangu

TALENTED Afro jazz musician, Precious “Mr P” Hanya, has roped in Andy Muridzo and Hwindi Prezident in his Christmas present named Mixed Bag.

Mr P said the 12-track album was a fusion of various genres to come up with an appealing blend.

“This is definitely a Christmas present on which I featured Andy Muridzo on Purezha and Baba naMai featuring Hwindi Prezident. The album is a mixed bag hence the title and it carries various messages about everyday life.

“It also has different genres to cater for a wider audience, the idea being to try and bridge the gap between old school and new school,” he said.

He said the album was recorded and produced by Lyk D at underground studios in Joburg.

“I also worked with various session musicians including

Gonyeti, former Jah Prayzah backing, Nicolas Musonza , Guitars, and Obert Gomba on drums,” he added.

Mr P said the song Baba Namai is an appreciation of love that parents show to their children as they grow up.

“The other song Soft Life talks about young people who are tired of struggling to make ends meet and wish for a better life.

“Dera encourages parents to discipline their children while Feelings talks about marital problems.

“Nyaya dzerudo features Dino Mudondo and it’s a self-explanatory,” he said.

The song Kare kare, talks about the life of yesteryears and Go tell your mama talks about someone who wants to go and pay lobola for his girl (produced by Tyfah Guni).

While Kangoma focuses on how people should appreciate artists whilst they are still alive instead of when they die.

Mr P has released a series of singles comprising Amai, Baba, Chimhandara , Sara zvako, Angie, Kudanana newe, KwaMutoko , Murambadoro, Wakandiramba , Cellphone and Chengetai vana.
