MAHACHI FEELS WARRIORS FUTURE IS SECURE
WARRIORS forward, Kuda Mahachi, believes the future of the team is secure because of the youthful players like Kundai Benyu and Jordan Zemura.
He said there were a number of good and emerging players knocking on the door to play for the senior national football team.
Their early elimination, from the 2021 AFCON finals, should not derail the efforts to build a competitive team, with new faces, ready to make an impact for their country.
Mahachi scored in Zimbabwe’s 2-1 win over Guinea.
“We need to be together as a team and build from our performance in Cameroon,” he said.
“We have a good squad.
“We have young boys like Zemura (Jordan), Benyu (Kundai) and we need to build a team around them.
“Everyone is disappointed about what happened at the AFCON finals but we should keep our heads up.
“We will try to motivate ourselves because there are some games, which are coming, and we have a good team and young players, who are coming through.
“We think we will do better in those games.” He also spoke about the team’s performance against Malawi.
“I don’t want to point fingers. We fought as a team and lost as a team. And, even the coach said he was happy with us.
“The coach chooses the team through training and, maybe, some were not doing well in training.
“So, they put those who would have done well. “I was happy that I got a chance and in every team everyone wants to play. I’m happy that I played and utilised my chance,” he said.
He feels they felt the absence of their missing key players.
“Our team wasn’t that strong because our regular players like Billiat, Nakamba, Munetsi were not there.
“I think we did well and if we work on a few things I think going forward, we have a good team.”
Zimbabwe are set to know their opponents in the 2023 AFCON qualifiers draw set to be held today.
