HERENTALS have joined top-flight teams utilising the current transfer window to beef up their squads ahead of the resumption of the championship race next month.

The Students, who had a poor run in the Chibuku Super Cup, have since signed former CAPS United striker, John Zhuwawu.

They have also re-signed midfielder Edgar Mhungu while they have also acquired Ali Maliselo from Dynamos.

The duo is said to have been sacrificed by DeMbare, who are targeting a number of players, including from countries like Nigeria and Ghana.

Herentals coach, Kumbirai Mutiwekuziva, confirmed the signings to H-Metro.

He said they are expecting more players to arrive before the return of football.

“We are also working on beefing up our squad.

“So far, we have signed three players, striker John Zhuwawu, midfielders Edgar Mhungu, who is making a return to the club, and Ali Maliselo,” said Mutiwekuziva.

“However, we feel like we will have a lot to do before the return of football.

“We are expecting three or four players to join the team.

“We are still working on a few issues to make it official. We are going to parade the players and make an official announcement, when we are done with the signings.”

Herentals struggled in the Chibuku Super Cup, after finishing bottom of Group 1, with seven points.

They managed just one win, four draws and lost four matches, in a competition that was won by FC Platinum.

Mutiwekuziva said they need to work on a few areas to ensure they are positioned to compete in the Premiership.

“We can’t run away from that, we didn’t perform well in the Chibuku Super Cup.

“Obviously, there are areas that we need to improve and that is why we are making these signings.

“We are confident that these players will bring the contribution needed,” said Mutiwekuziva.

They are also hoping that striker, Paddy Nyamakura, returns to full fitness, having been plagued by injuries since his arrival from Chicken Inn.
