- Blessing Malinganiza

SPORTS and Recreation Commission chairman, Gerald Mhlotswa, says FBC Holdings have led by example and challenged other companies to come on board and support football.

He said this at a ceremony where the financial institution handed over US$35 000 to the Warriors for beating Guinea at the 2021 Nations Cup finals.

“FBC Holdings, at an incredibly short notice managed to come up with this sponsorship deal,” he said.

“I know, technically, it comes to an end after today’s proceedings.

“But, I just hope that what Dr (John) Mushayavanhu (FBC Holdings CEO) and FBC Holdings have done, in leading the way in so far as corporate support of a game like football in this country, will inspire other corporates out there to say FBC can’t just be there for the sake of it.

“We all know who FBC is as a financial institution.

“They are a leader in this market and I hope this leadership that you have shown attracts further corporate sponsorship into football.

“I think this is very much appreciated, it’s exciting and like I keep saying, I hope it’s the start of good things for football in this country,” said Mlotshwa.

He also thanked the Warriors medical staff for maintaining a clean bill of health in the camp.

The Warriors did not record any Covid-19 positive result during their stay in Cameroon.

The function was attended by the ZIFA Secretariat, who are leading the domestic game, after the suspension of the association’s board.

Acting chief executive, Xolisani Gwesela, led the team from ZIFA which included technical director, Wilson Mtekede, and Wellington Mpandare, the general manager of all national football teams.
