The Government will reposition Peruvian workers in other jobs in the sector
Espot is betting on a change in the contractual modality following the case of these workers
This was indicated by the Minister of the Presidency, Economy, Work and Housing, Conxita Marsol, in the context of the celebration of Sant Jordi’s day, in Plaça del Poble of Andorra la Vella, who asserted that “the companies that they do these bad practices discredit the country, as well as the rest of the business fabric of the Principality”. In addition, she assured that the Ministry will be in charge of replacing the fired Peruvian workers in other jobs in the sector, explaining that «ex officio inspections have been carried out» in order to find a solution. However, the holder of the Labor portfolio was totally in favor of offering different alternatives to these workers «for a season». At the end, she also stated that until now, in the portfolio she directs «we have no record of these dismissals having taken place».
On the other hand, the Head of Government, Xavier Espot, stated that all the parties involved in the case of the abandoned Peruvian workers must continue to be investigated and, if necessary, the company in question should be sanctioned if the dismissal of nearly 25 workers for reporting the situation of abandonment. «We have no news about the dismissal of these workers, but obviously if the dismissal is based on eventual reprisals, this company will certainly have to be duly sanctioned», he declared. In addition, Espot stated that if the facts «are like this», the situation that overexposes is that «we have a problem with these types of companies and contracts, and therefore what we have to do is take the bull by the horns and put an end to this contractual modality, as it would represent a success».
This is how the serious situation with the abandoned workers, and which still has a queue, has highlighted the effectiveness of measures to hire non-EU workers, a statement that the head of government took advantage of to vindicate the narrow position of the executive to the law and the rules, because «we cannot go beyond what the law allows us. From here, I can state that many sanctioning proceedings have been initiated, as well as sanctions», explained the president. Even so, he also stated that apart from the speed with which these files have been processed, what the situation indicates is that «there is a fundamental

problem that cannot be solved only through inspections and the sanctions». For this reason, the head of government appealed to «a legal amendment», which he defended that «we have promoted and will continue to promote this proposal», since these irregularities are not acceptable «from a legal perspective or from he perspective of people’s dignity».
However, the press’s knowledge of the dismissal of between 20 and 25 Peruvian workers as a possible reprisal for reporting the case of abandonment, currently maintains
