DUHALDE, GO HOME!

-

While eating breakfast last Sunday, I read an interview with former president Eduardo Duhalde in La Nación which deeply annoyed me. Here was this man, who amongst other negative attitudes during his political career was responsible for loading upon us the ‘K’ dynasty, telling us about his design for the future of Argentina, even indicating who should be the next president (Roberto Lavagna).

What a nerve! Really, one of the extraordinary aspects of our country’s politics is how so many disgraced figures tend to try a return again and again, instead of accepting their failure and letting others in following generations try and see if they can do better.

Unfortunately there are so many like him hanging around doing their best, through different means and connections, to stage their return, in the process hindering the nation’s possibilites of once and for all getting out of the rut.

A list with their names, at national, provincial and municipal levels, would probably require space as long as a roll of toilet paper.

If only voters would put cotton wool in their ears and totally ignore these characters, searching for fresh voices in the process, how much better things would be. Unfortunately many prefer scratched long-play records instead of new compacts!

As for this man, after finishing the reading I felt a strong desire to go out on the street with a placard saying: “Duhalde, go home!”
