to the Spidey character that sent them spinning in the right direction: “When Tom Holland came along it was like, ‘Because Spidey is new to his powers when he swings around something it’s not always going to be perfect.’ Spidey is going to swing off axis or spin around during the swing. It took the character out of the uncanny valley and into something real.” Not everything went according to plan when shooting locations. “We were able to get a drone to fly over the Paul-löbehaus, the Reichstag, and to get access to the Spree River,” recalls Dan. “Over the course of negotiatio­ns we found out we couldn’t use the likeness of the Paullöbe-haus or the Reichstag. We ended up replacing it all with CG at Method and constructe­d our own buildings on top of that.”

Other environmen­t building was the result of logistical issues. “Part of the movie takes place in Lagos, Nigeria and we were unable to go to Africa. We ended up scouting Puerto Rico because Lagos is a seaside city. We were able to go down there and take photo tiles. Being more grounded LIDAR scans and photos of the aeroport were used to ensure accuracy

definitely helps us in terms of creating those worlds, but then they’re skewed enough to put them into a comic book movie,” Dan adds. “There’s not a lot of time in terms of when you get the shots and get them turned over so you’ve got to hit the ground running and our great relationsh­ips with the vendors helps with that,” he continues. “The splash panel is going to be a lot of fun. It’s one of those ones where I want to get my ticket and sit in the back of the room on opening night and see what people think of it.
