Speed up your workflow
Render Legion’s Corona Renderer 1.4 for 3ds Max is a big update that will significantly reduce your render times...
Corona Render 1.4 will speed up your render performance by up to 70 per cent... It’s a bold statement but one that the team behind the latest Cpu-based un(biased) photorealistic renderer can back up. New refinements developed for the 1.4 update have shown render times can be reduced by 50 to 70 per cent due to the new denoising capability. “This is a highly sophisticated solution, seamlessly integrated into the core as a one-click solution and based on the 3D scene and not just a 2D post process,” says Render Legion’s Adam Hotový. “The denoising level can be interactively adjusted in the VFB after rendering is complete, so that you are not locked into the level set at render time. We feel it is a very powerful and elegant solution, and feedback shows that our users think the same.”
The software’s denoising addition is based on the 3D scene information and not just a 2D post-process effect, while adaptive rendering further reduces noise and grain in renders. And as promised in the preview, Near instant updates and a smooth workflow make Corona Renderer very appealing Arch-viz is a key area for Corona Renderer, but future releases will target artists working in video games Corona’s handling of scenes with over 255 lights is now “more efficient”.
”It’s not enough just to render faster though; having a fast and smooth workflow is critical. That’s why we also focused on the viewport performance, and on Interactive Rendering in particular as that sets Corona apart, giving near-instant updates for any changes to the scene – basically the same benefits as you get with a Gpubased rendering solution but without the drawbacks. The best of both worlds,” says Adam.
Adaptive Image Sampling is a another new feature that improves the workflow and quality of Corona renders: this balances out the rendering calculations over the image to focus more processing power on tricky areas, like shadows.
Further new features include support for all versions of 3ds Max and a VR camera that renders stereoscopic panoramas in equirectangular format. “We’re not done yet, there’s a lot more to come,” says Adam, as he confirms a Cinema 4D release is in development. Technical paper talking points This sketch-based motion-editing workflow for articulated characters has been developed by students at the Korea Advanced Institute of Science and Technology and Weta Digital. It’s a novel sketching interface for expressive editing of motion data through space-time optimisation.
