Step-by-step Daz studio to marvelous Designer

-

one basic Garment layout

I start by creating my garment around the default avatar in Marvelous Designer. When I have the garment the way I like it, I save the garment file in Marvelous Designer. Then I head back to Daz Studio and export two versions of my character, one in zero-pose and another of the fully posed character.

two importing the character

Export the files as .obj from Daz Studio. I use the zero-pose as a temporary avatar in Marvelous Designer, and the fully posed one for draping the clothes in the final step. I don’t include any textures from Daz Studio. Both the exported .obj files from Daz Studio must have the exact same geometry (see expert tip).

three refining the Garment

I import my zero-pose character into Marvelous Designer, making sure to select the Load as Avatar option. Next, I load my garment file, make any adjustments and click Simulate. Once I’ve fine-tuned the design and the garment fits in zero-pose, I go back to import .obj file and locate and select my fully posed character.

Four loading the morph

I choose Load as Morph Target (instead of the avatar option) and watch my avatar change position, with my garment following, as she moves into her fully posed position. I make any final adjustments and then export from Marvelous Designer as an .obj file. The garment can now be loaded into 3D software.
