ADD A SCRATCH COAT

Adding scratches to the texture is important because we’re trying to make it look as if it was cut or torn. Use a transparent texture to make the scratches on the metal. Put it into a new Vraymtl. I tend to make a new stainless steel material and use the scratches from that to add to the base metal. This method is effective as it makes it look as if the upper paint was scratched, revealing the stainless steel underneath.
