The back fur is longer than the chest overall as with most mammals. The longest aspect should be the fringe along the sides of his back. Comb these areas away from the body, and towards the tips comb them down slightly to show gravity taking over. Towards the top of the back splay the mastiff crest to give him his added stature. The flow of the fur should radiate downward from the head and flow around the larger muscles, but as a whole the back should stick out from the skin more directly. This gives the back a woolly appearance.
