It’s all about filling up gaps. You can go as crazy as you want but at the end you still need to be able to turn it into a low-poly model. Try to think in boxy shapes – fill things up with cables, bolts, plates and the like. These things make the baking process even easier. Just keep the corners of the main silhouette curvy and nobody will notice the rectangular shapes. Viewers will just see a super-detailed model that feels believable thanks to all the extra details.
