TOYOTA might sting you more than most when you buy one of its 4WDS, but it certainly pays back when you sell. A three-year-old Land Cruiser GXL TD will yield 68 per cent of its new value at private sale today, according to industry value guide Redbook.

A Toyota Hilux SR5 TD auto will also return a 68 per cent value, while the Prado GXL TD auto is only slightly lower at 65 per cent.

Bargain buys aren’t so kind to the wallet when you want to sell. A 2013 Ssangyong Actyon Sports auto is worth 46 per cent of its new value if sold to a private buyer today. While Chinese utes are only getting better, the resale values have a way to go. A 2013 Great Wall V220 pick-up is worth just 39 per cent of its original value today.
