AUSTRALIA IS OPENING UP

-

AS WE send this magazine off to the printers in Sydney, we are buoyed by hope that travel restrictions are lifting and we’ll soon be able to get out and about to explore this great country. Even with limits of 50 and 100km travel from your home, this still gives us opportunities to get out and ride a bike, hike and enjoy some fresh air.

South Australia has opened many of its national parks, campgrounds, caravan parks and lifted travel restrictions, so lucky South Aussies are allowed to enter the Flinders and Gammon Ranges and farther north to the Red Centre. Hopefully the other states will follow soon, as well as more interstate travel.

The team at the Mt Dare Hotel were quick to jump on the announcement, inviting travellers to their great station on the western edge of the Simpson Desert. While you still can’t cross the desert in to Queensland or the Territory, and you need to continue to practice safe social distancing at places like Mt

Dare, this is a start of things to come and a glimmer of hope for us all itching to get out there.

While we’re champing at the bit for more outback travel, we’re happy to bring the first part of our Tasmanian adventures to you in this magazine. This trip happened just before the virus reared its spiky head and was epic. Made even more so by having the incredible 6x6 Landcruisers from MSA Accessories and Maxtrax along for the ride. Comparing these two amazing rigs was too good an opportunity not to pass up.

If you’re planning your travels farther afield, Glenn Marshall has shared with us some of the more remote locations in Australia he’d be targeting for post-lockdown travels. Glenn’s amazing photography is all the inspiration we need to want more adventures.

While we all can’t get out there and enjoy these places just yet, you can read about them here, and keep planning.
