MARK the date in your calendars, Y62 Bretheren! August 2021 − Nissan Patrol outsells Toyota Landcruiser − for the first time in recent memory (we think the last Patrol to do this was a GQ). As the last of the 200 Series Cruisers roll out and Toyota awaits the 300, there were 506 Y62 Patrols sold, compared to just 311 Landcruiser 200s in August. With deliveries of the LC300 delayed untill later in the year, the big Nissan could get a few more wins in 2021.

While the big Toyota wagon lays in wait, the mid-size Prado had a mega-month moving 2731 units; an increase of 452.8 per cent over last year, according to Vfacts, and enough to see the Prado leap-frog the utes in to third place on the year-to-date tally.

Toyota Hilux dominated overall sales figures in August 2021, selling more than any other model on sale in Australia. However if we look purely at 4x4 utes, the Ford Ranger has outperformed the Hilux, selling 3609 units to Toyota’s 3324. Rounding out the top three 4x4 utes, Isuzu has sold 1187 4x4 D-MAX utes in this period, with Mazda close behind selling 1037 4x4 BT-50S.

VW’S Amarok has been consistent, selling just shy of 1000 Amaroks a month, with the August number being 986. The Nissan Navara outsold the Mitsubishi Triton 4x4 models, with Nissan signing off on 662 sales compared to 624 from Mitsubishi. This bumps the usually popular Triton out of the Top 10 for the month. LDV sold just one unit less than Mitsubishi, with 623 T60 4x4 ute sales proving that the budget-friendly option is increasing in popularity with the Australian 4x4 market.
