Logitech G403 Prodigy

Big dollars, small features.

-

We’re really struggling to figure out how Logitech can charge $100 for one of the simplest mice in the roundup. It’s yet another right-hander, and there’s just one extra feature in the box to customise it — a small 10-gram weight that lifts the total weight from 90 grams to 100 grams. We remember the days when Logitech had a small tray filled with about six different weights, making them much more configurable.

We must admit it does have one of the smoothest sensations of sliding across our FUNC mouse mat, but there’s very little else to impress. Logitech claims it has a 1ms mouse response time, yet we didn’t notice any difference in-game. It did seem a tiny bit more accurate when pulling off long-range headshots, but barely so.

We’re not sure if it’s optical or laser, but we’re guessing the latter, as it has a maximum DPI of 12,000 — most optical mice are limited to half that. Like many of the mice here, it comes with onboard memory, so that once you’ve finished programming it, you can take it to a pal’s place and not have to worry about setting up all of your profiles again. It’s also got configurable RGB lighting, but it’s much more subtle than the competition. The 260MB of bloatware it installs, however, isn’t very desirable.

With just six buttons, this mouse comes out in the middle of the pack in terms of button numbers. And yet... there’s something about how smooth this mouse feels in use that does make a difference. Whether that difference justifies the $100 price tag is arguable, though.
