Das Keyboard Ultimate 4C TKL

Don’t be blindsided by this keyboard’s unique traits.

-

The Das Keyboard Ultimate 4C, like it’s stablemate, the Model S Professional (left), is a joy to type on. The standout difference with this keyboard is the complete lack of any key surface inscriptions. And we mean any. This keyboard is as nude as you were the day you were born. For some, this will be a confronting and possibly deal-breaking feature. For others, they will revel in the difficulty it causes workmates and will undoubtedly get a laugh or two out of the scenario in the process.

The 4C Ultimate sports a tenkeyless design — or TKL for short — and, therefore, also features a diminutive size by comparison with most of the other keyboards in this roundup. This TKL style isn’t for everyone, but for those that enjoy the smaller footprint and don’t miss the numpad and other keys found to the right of the keyboard, it’s a plus.

Also scoring positively, much like the Model S Professional (left), is the typing experience. It feels good. Real good. Even though this unit sports switches by Greetech, and not Cherry which boasts the most well-known and famed name in mechanical switches, the Greetech switches deliver the goods.

The party trick of the 4C Ultimate is found on the back. The stand that props up the keyboard to a comfortable angle is magnetically attached and can detach to double as a ruler, complete with measurements. Well played, German engineering. In the office, this means no-one will steal your ruler again. And if they do, just ask for part of your keyboard back!
