Matias Ergo Pro

Definitely unique, but not always in a good way.

-

Ergonomics can deliver some peculiar oddities to the market and the Matias Ergo Pro is certainly one of them. With a unique design to say the very least, the Ergo Pro will test your boundaries both in terms of what you consider a normal keyboard, as well as its general setup.

Versatility dressed by options is how we describe the Matias Ergo Pro to colleagues bewildered by the unusual form. The only keyboard in the roundup to feature the full trio of negative and positive tilt options paired with the ability to initiate a tent form. This opens numerous options for differing ergonomic implementations.

In terms of core function, the Ergo Pro does well, not requiring a significant amount of time to adjust to the unusual setup. This is welcomed by those uninitiated to the split-hand typing method, though like the Microsoft Ergo 4000 (see page 68), some self-taught touch typists may find themselves hitting a function key with their right hand when hunting for the B key, which actually resides on the left keypad.

Complete with mechanical key switches, the Matias Ergo Pro delivers a reasonable touch when typing, though not on the same level as the likes of the Das Keyboard, Filco, CoolerMaster or iKBC offerings. And you pay for it.

The Ergo Pro isn’t just trying to make life easier with ergonomics, it also delivers dedicated function keys for one-stroke undo, cut, copy and paste. The icing on the cake is that the functionality is incorporated via firmware and requires no drivers to work.
