EU investigat­es Valve over anti-competitiv­e region restrictio­ns

American gaming company Valve has become the target of an antitrust probe launched by the European Union. An agreement between game publishers and Valve is being investigat­ed that allegedly blocks users from purchasing video games from Valve’s Steam store based on where they live. The EU is concerned that how consumers purchase digital content is reducing cross-border trade and that game publishers may be using activation keys to block consumers, or limit access, to games based on geolocatio­n.
