NY Times app removed from Chinese iOS App Store

JUST ANOTHER BRICK IN THE FIREWALL.

Following on from the story to the left, Apple has recently removed the New York Times’ app from the Chinese version of the App Store for violating “local regulations” imposed by the Chinese Government. This is hardly news for the NY Times, as the country’s government has been blocking its website since 2012 due to certain published articles relating to the then-head of state and his undisclosed wealth. Due to the fact that Apple heavily relies upon China as a huge potential market and also a manufacturing location, it’s unsurprising that the company is bowing to the Government’s regulation of the media.
