If you have a full PC VR setup, there’s a good chance you’ve already found yourself wishing you could ditch the cumbersome cables that attach the headset to the computer. And alas, the rumored wireless follow-ups to the Vive and Oculus headsets didn’t show up at CES for the start of 2017, so it seems that native wireless VR headsets will have to wait a little longer. All’s not lost when it comes to remedying this biggest obstacle in VR’s suspension of disbelief, however. Aftermarket wireless VR headset dongle KwikVR is aiming to cut the cord with a 5GHz Wi-Fi based connection. On paper, the 4 hours play time, less than 12ms ‘guaranteed’ latency and universal compatibility sounds like a recipe for success. Whether or not KwickVR can achieve all this in the real world, however, is yet to be seen. JB
