Roccat Skeltr

Bringing your mobile devices to the battlefield.

-

The Skeltr gaming keyboard prides itself on its ability to “unite your peripherals”. Just to the right of the main power cord is a USB port designed to let you plug your mobile device in for charging. At the top of the keyboard is a ‘docking slot’ — a trenchlike feature where you can pop your connected device. Our iPad stayed there quite comfortably, even when we moved the keyboard around, and the slot’s surface is coated with a rubbery substance, so your screen won’t get scratched.

The Skeltr has built-in Bluetooth and, once-paired with a phone or tablet, you can press a button on the keyboard to switch between typing on your PC or on your mobile device. We did experience a bit of latency when typing at high speed over Bluetooth, however.

The keyboard also allows you to route calls if you have a headset plugged into the 3.5mm ports, by simply pressing the Call button on the left of the keyboard. You can also play music from your phone and the app provides oodles of settings and stats to view, too.

The build quality feels solid and the detachable palm rest is easy to switch in and out. It’s an attractive grey and black design, with three macro keys below the spacebar and another five down the left. This is not a mechanical keyboard, though — the ‘rubber dome’ membrane keys are softer to the touch and much quieter. Plus, the backlighting adds to the ease of use in low light.

The Skeltr places a great emphasis on its features, so if you’re a pro gamer, there are more appropriate options out there.
