LucidSound LS20 Powered Gaming Headset
$179 | WWW.BLUEMOUTH.COM OKish headphones for a premium.
There are loads of hybrid headsets around that promise a seamless transition between gaming and on-the-go life. One minute, you’re groaning into the mic while teabagging scrubs on Xbox Live, then you’re discussing core pillars and figures on a con-call with Shanghai.
Out of the box, the LS20 looks and feels reasonably premium given its all plastic and vinyl construction. The quilted stiching on the headband is a nice touch, but the design showstopper is the sensual split and twist where the headband meets the cans. The LS20 took a bit of coercion to find the comfy spot on the head; I think I’m still trying. The cans are a slightly weird size where they’re not on-ear, but not quite over-ear either. Thankfully, there’s enough pivot and push in the fit that you should find moderate comfort.
Over on the left side is the USB charge point, 3.5mm jack, multi-device power switch and slot for the optional boom mic and large stop/play button. There’s also the awesome volume control ,which is a sneaky dial taking up the entire left side. While over on the right is the bass boost control and mic mute.
The 40mm drivers fair averagely when used unamplified, but flick that switch, well, button... and the 40’s come to life with much needed punch and vigour.
The LS20 boasts compatibility with PS4, Xbox, mobile and PC but if you regularly use voice chat on all platforms, take note that PC compatibility means sound only... no voice, which was annoying to discover.
Sadly, the LS20 is hilariously overpriced for what you get.
