How to use Sandboxie

1 DOWNLOAD SANDBOXIE

Head to the Sandboxie website ( www.sandboxie.com), and where it reads ‘Sandboxie now supports Windows 10’, click on the ‘Click here’ app. Once downloaded, open up the .exe file and the installation wizard will begin. Click ‘I Agree’ on the Licence Agreement page, select the location to install the app, then click ‘Next’.

2 INSTALLING DRIVERS

As part of the installation, Sandboxie will ask you to install a system-level driver. This is essential to allow Sandboxie to emulate Windows and run software in a sandbox environment. Click ‘Next’ to install the drivers — you’ll need to have administrator privileges. In the event of something going wrong with the drivers, restart Windows in Safe Mode and uninstall Sandboxie.

3 RUNNING SANDBOXIE FOR THE FIRST TIME

When you launch Sandboxie for the first time, a window will appear and it may list a number of applications already installed on your machine that need to be configured to work better with Sandboxie. Press ‘OK’ to allow Sandboxie to configure them, but if there’s any you want to leave alone, select them, then tap on ‘Remove’ to remove it from the list.

4 KNOWN CONFLICTS

Some apps — such as antivirus software — may not allow Sandboxie to run correctly. If you have any of these programs installed, the ‘Known Conflicts’ button will flash. Click on it, and a Window will appear telling you what programs were found with that conflict. Click ‘Yes’ to open the Known Conflicts web page and search for what workarounds you need.
