Your TV can get it

Smart TVs can be very useful until they also fall victim to ransomware, as Darren Cauthon — a software engineer — unfortunately discovered late December last year. Infected with Cyber.Police ransomware, which demanded he pay US$500 to unlock his Android-powered TV, Cauthon attempted to factory reset the TV to solve the issue. However, the solution provided online didn’t work, so he was forced to visit a service centre. While it’s unknown (to us, at least) whether the ransomware infected the TV through official or more dodgy avenues, the fact remains: Androidpowered devices, whether they’re phones, tablets, watches or TVs, are equally susceptible to malware.
