AOC Agon AG352UCG

A technically strong offering, but it could use a bit more finesse.

-

Unlike the MX34VQ, the AOC Agon AG352UCG immediately makes its presence known. Visual presence occurs from the rear, courtesy of the aggressive angular design pushing the gamerchic motif, complete with LED illumination. From the front, the AG352UCG pushes from piano black glossy bezels to diffused LED lighting through clear acrylic fascia elements.

The silver cast-metal stand is well formed in a delicate looking yet sturdy standing three-pronged solution. The forward facing two primary prongs create a sensual curve between the two forward contact points. The centre of the base is anchored to an upright neck that provides height adjustment, panel tilt and swivel. The top of this central structure also provides a useful handle for carrying the monitor. This is mighty handy when moving the unit around a room, though we don’t envisage any regular LAN gamers wanting to take this unit on the road often — park it at home.

The OSD was a sticking point on this display. Unfortunately, a combination of on-screen menu jumps and unintuitive controls lead to OSD navigation being unenjoyable and even a little frustrating at times.

The AOC Agon AG352UCG has shortcomings. Yet, for the most part, these shortcomings either become insignificant during the thick of a gaming firefight or you simply adapt to accept that the unit is what it is. And when it’s punching out 100Hz curved 3,440 x 1,440 gaming, it’s nothing short of impressive.

Verdict

A technically capable display bound to impress, if you can overlook the minor shortcomings.
