ASUS Designo MX34VQ

Gorgeous display, slightly frightening price tag, though.

This is the kind of display that you settle down in front of, pause for a moment and find yourself saying “Wow...!” — it’s that impressive at first glance.

We see lots of different computer components, devices and gadgets pass through the APC Labs, yet every now and then, there’s one that stops you for a moment. This moment can be one of great positive impression, or of disbelief that the product even got to market. In this case, we’re happy to report it’s the former.

Continuing the design ethos of the Designo MX series, the MX34VQ makes its presence known within a desktop setting, yet does so with a gentle softness — it’s non-intrusive. And that’s not easy for a 34-inch ultrawide display to achieve, speaking volumes for the industrial design.

The MX34VQ features the same borderless bezel tech as in previous MX series displays, using the zero dot matrix to beautiful effect, creating an ultra-wide, curved panel that just is in front of you — no pressure.

It may seem like a lot of hyperbole being shared here, but it’s done in a hope to express the impression gained during use. If you get a chance to use a MX34VQ, take that opportunity.

Given the tight radius of the curve, the MX34VQ benchmarked well with Delta-E values in-line with larger radius displays, reflecting the quality results for a smaller radius panel. Similarly, other aspects such as black levels, colour gamut, luminance and contrast ratio were all in-line with expectations.

Basically, it ticks the boxes it needs to in order to not just be a good looker. Verdict A gorgeous display that doesn’t rely solely on the curved facia to dazzle and impress.
