Corsair Force Series MP500 120GB

Is this Return of the Jedi or Attack of the Clones?

-

The MP500 was brought into the lab with some lofty expectations as it had garnered a reputation as a competitor to Samsung’s 960 series. Note: The performance of an SSD varies depending on its capacity and the density of the integrated memory modules — typically the larger drives show higher performance. The samples provided direct from Corsair for review are typically the 240GB and 480GB variants. Upon checking the MP500 spec in detail, one can observe a distinct difference in claimed specification between the 120GB unit and its siblings, with the two larger units delivering mirrorable claimed performance. We advise keeping your distance from the 120GB variant we’ve tested. Performance was not at the desirable levels teased by the 240GB/ 480GB variants and write performance was shocking to say the least. Great for storing read-only resources that require quick access, otherwise spend your money elsewhere.

Verdict

The 120GB leaves us wanting more, but we’re lead to believe the 240GB and 480GB variants would deliver.
