Samsung 960 Evo 500GB
Great value for money, even at this price point.
The Samsung 960 Evo is the high performance NVMe SSD designed to capture a broader market audience than the 960 Pro. There are three key areas of focus in which the 960 Evo takes a step back from the 960 Pro: performance, endurance and warranty. The Pro and Evo use the same Samsung Polaris derived controller, however paired with different flash memory NAND — MLC for Pro and TLC for Evo. The warranty is represented by two key aspects, the drive endurance — typically measured in terabytes written (TBW) — and the manufacturer supported warranty period. The Evo typically has half the endurance, i.e. 400TBW for the 960 Pro 512GB and 200TBW for the 960 Evo 500GB, and the Pro series has a 5-year warranty versus the 3-year warranty of the Evo. For most users, the 960 Evo delivers plenty of NVMe performance and you’ll no doubt be looking at an upgrade by the time the warranty is over.
