“Older premises could be having problems caused by much poorer cabling...”
My favourite things: Knowledgeable writers. The articles aren’t fluff; they’ve got real content, and assume a decent level of competency of the reader so that they can write about the good stuff.
Coverage. I’m no spring chicken to this industry, and I read voraciously online, yet I always finish an issue with at least 10 links/names to go investigate further. Well done.
Linux and hardware. I really like that you’ve got some Linux content, and real hardware projects.
Real product reviews. Information that hasn’t been compromised by money is so rare... this makes your reviews very very valuable.
The humour and style. From things like “Wait... what?” to “Keeping Darwinism at Bay Since 2017”, the writing style and humour is so readable and accessible. I just love it. And further kudos. I’ve developed ASICs and FPGAs professionally. Your ‘Dawn of the Accelerators’ article in the June 2017 was completely accurate. Quite a feat... further evidence of your writers’ competence. Please don’t change anything! No cost cutting, no selling of the magazine, no reducing pages, no compromise of editorial freedom... In this internet/content overload age, the quality of your content is what makes you so awesome. Don’t change and you’ll have a lifelong customer! Greg Bel
Ed replies: Thank you for the kind words, Greg — it’s not often we receive such overwhelming praise, so we had to read your letter a few times over to make sure you weren’t being sarcastic. (We’re fairly certain you weren’t...) We’re a small team, but we work hard to produce a mag we can be proud of each month, so it’s great to hear you get a bit of enjoyment from it — and we’ll continue to do our darnedest to meet your high standards in future issues.
