Anker PowerCore Speed 10,000mAh
A high tech power bank.
For those who want the latest cuttingedge features, the Anker PowerCore Speed is equipped Qualcomm Quick Charge 3.0. With a compatible phone and cable (probably best to take a quick look at qualcomm.com), it’s possible to charge up to 4x faster, but in our experience, 2x is typical in the real world.
The unit can output 2.4A at 8–10V, and 2A at 10–12V, but itself only charges at a normal 5V 2A rate via micro USB and does not support passthrough charging. For those without Quick Charge, the Anker power bank will still output up to 3A at 5V from the single USB port.
In our testing (standard charge rates), the Anker PowerCore Speed gave an excellent 99% of the rated capacity and happily charged our QC test phone.
While the manufacturer does boast Temperature Control technology to ensure the charger remains relatively cool in all conditions, at high charge rates (especially in a bag), heat can be an issue, so the PowerCore Speed will throttle back if the temperature gets too high.
The PowerCore also includes PowerIQ tech which claims to be able to automatically identify a connected device in order to provide it the best charge.
The power bank itself is clad in tough plastic, and measures a very compact 10 x 6.3 x 2.2cm, and a featherweight 198 grams, making it perfect for slipping into a bag to take with you on your travels.
While it may not look as premium as the Belkin (right), Anker is a quality brand for mobile accessories, making this well worth the price.
Verdict
Well worth the price for faster charging, but only if you have a compatible phone.
