Lenovo fined US$3.5 million over preinstalled adware on its laptops

SUPERFISH PROVES EXPENSIVE FOR THE LAPTOP MANUFACTURER.

-

Laptop manufacturer Lenovo found itself in trouble for violating US consumer protection laws for preinstalling a SuperFish-developed adware software on several laptops it sold in 2014 and 2015 that made the systems vulnerable to hacking. Although adware-installed Lenovo laptops stopped being sold in 2015, it’s taken over two years for the Federal Trade Commision and the manufacturer to reach an agreement, with Lenovo being fined US$3.5 million for the transgression.
