BenQ Zowie XL2735

For truly fast-paced gaming.

-

While many brands promise Pro gamingfocused monitors, few take it as far as BenQ, and the Zowie XL2735 is no exception. The 27-inch screen features a 2,560 x 1,440 resolution, as well as a very fast 144Hz refresh rate. It is a TN panel, of course, with an excellent 1ms response time.

The XL2735 doesn’t include G-Sync or even FreeSync support, so relies on the gaming rig to maintain a very high framerate. Our test setup had no issues with this, of course, and the BenQ monitor is gloriously fast and smooth to game on. This is helped in part by BenQ’s own Dynamic Accuracy tech, which helps eliminate blurring for a more accurate experience.

In day-to-day use, the TN panel is closer to serviceable, than stand out — still, colours and viewing angles are decent and the backlit is even.

Round the back, the monitor has dual HDMI, DVI, DisplayPort and USB inputs. The XL2735 is packed with other pro gaming features, including a black equaliser that makes it easier to see in dark areas without overexposing in bright locations.

The stand is superb, with full height, pivot, tilt and swivel adjustments, and indicators to make it easy to reset back to the same settings. The screen even has fold-out blinders to block distractions, and a pop-out headset holder.

But one of our favourite additions is the S-Switch, also seen in the XL2540 — a handy dongle that allows easy switching between inputs and profile, as well as OSD control.

Verdict

Great for pro gamers chasing every advantage, but for the price, it faces stiff competition from rivals.
