ViewSonic VX2757-mhd

Unbeatable value on a budget.

-

Not everyone has $500 to spend on a gaming monitor and, at the lower end, choices are limited. But it’s easy to recommend the ViewSonic VX2757mhd, which can be bought for under $250. At first glance, a 27-inch, TN-based 1,920 x 1,080 screen doesn’t seem that compelling. But the VX2757-mhd has a trick up its sleeve — a 75Hz refresh rate, and FreeSync support. This combination is ideal for older, or more budget-focused gaming rigs, who still want to maximise frame rates.

The ViewSonic engineers have also worked to reduce the input lag and included a range of game modes. At the native resolution, it doesn’t take an overly powerful GPU to push the ViewSonic VX2757-mhd beyond the usual 60Hz, and FreeSync runs from 47Hz up.

In our testing, it worked well to give a seamless, stutter- and tear-free gaming experience, with no ghosting. The TN panel suffers from the usual reduced viewing angles, but the colours are quite vibrant. There is some backlight bleed visible, and the screen benefits from manual tweaking, but overall it gives a remarkable result for the price. You do need DisplayPort to use FreeSync, and only an HDMI cable is included in the box.

The VX2757-mhd stand only has basic tilt adjustment, but has a cable management clip. Round the back, it has HDMI, DisplayPort and VGA inputs as well as 3.5mm audio jacks.

The ViewSonic VX57 series also includes an otherwise identical 22-inch and 24-inch models, for $169 and $179, respectively.

Verdict

Fantastic value for AMD gamers who want to experience higher refresh rates on a budget.
