Fnatic Gear Rush G1

There is beauty in simplicity.

-

The Rush G1 is the least expensive keyboard on our list, so what are you missing out on when you save this much dosh?

Well, this keyboard only has red LED backlights for the keys, so your lighting options are limited to four different brightness settings and a pulsing mode, although the shortcomings more or less end there.

Its aesthetic is understated and the greyon-black logo is the only indicator that it isn’t an office keyboard when the lights are off. The rubberised plastic finish on the frame and detachable palm rest feel premium, as does the braided USB cable. The G1 also provides USB passthrough with two additional USB ports on the rear of the keyboard, improving accessibility for extra peripherals and giving your rig a bonus port in the process.

The keycaps are of a standard size and are regularly spaced, and this is definitely one of the most affordable keyboards to feature Cherry MX mechanical switches. We tested the unit with Brown switches and found the travel to be comfortable and the noise produced to be a pleasant dull thud rather than an irritating high-pitched click.

The software is incredibly simple and we found it easy to set up the macros (you can assign up to 10 for each of the five profiles), although an on-the-fly macro recording option would have been a welcome inclusion.

For those after a gaming keyboard with all the essentials but aren’t all that keen on forking out big dollars on a lightshow.

Verdict

We heartily recommend the Fnatic Gear Rush G1 for those who don’t need all the glitz of RGB.
