Roccat Suora FX
This full sized frameless keyboard is going for simplicity over special effects.
While much of Roccat’s keyboard portfolio attempts to convert customers with additional media keys, palm rests or unique lighting, its latest frameless mechanical keyboard seems to be trying to focus on getting the fundamentals right.
By sacrificing the palm rest and additional keys, the Soura FX has been able to keep its footprint compact, a massive perk for anyone a little tight on space. But in addition to cutting a heap of dead weight, this no-frills approach means you aren’t distracted by unusual keys.
The Blue Cherry switches give the Soura FX an ostentatious clackieness that is second to none. As far as gaming capabilities go, there isn’t much here that distinguishes the keys you’ll need for your average FPS, MMO or MOBA, but the keyboard’s per-key RGB lighting scheme and the accompanying Roccat Swarm software allows you to customise your the colours of gaming keys and set up specific profiles if you want to fully colour code keys for particular games.
In addition, you have all the customisation tools you need for remapping keys to a custom configuration that can be toggled on and off by a Game Mode toggle and while there aren’t additional keys for media and macro controls, the 6-key Insert/ Delete block transforms into configurable macro buttons in this mode.
Most importantly, though, the Suora FX doesn’t skimp on the important performance technologies like the advanced antighosting N-Key rollover and a rapid response 1,000Hz polling rate.
Verdict
Distills the important keyboard technologies by cutting away everything else.
