Thermaltake Meka Pro

The softwareless macro Meka.

-

ThermalTake have chosen to focus on the macro with it’s Meka Pro, adding a dedicated toggle that allows you to record macros on the fly. While the fact that you can record 31 key sequences using a simple keystroke-based operation will be appealing to anyone who regularly uses macros, it does mean that you miss out on a software suite to help you configure these options and tweak other settings.

The Meka Pro is a fullsized ‘ board that has ditched the dedicated media keys and palm rest, defaulting to the dual functions of the F keys for useful common shortcuts. Despite the macro focus, this aim to conserve space has relegated the macro keys to the 1–6 keys on the number pad.

The Meka Pro has a redonly lighting arrangement, and though it’s not quite as versatile as per-key RGB, it does have four dedicated gaming light modes that will illuminate only the keys you generally use for particular styles of games.

In addition to this, the keyboard has a number of onboard light shows that can be cycled with the push of a button, a Windows button lock and even a switch for flipping between 6-key rollover and N-key rollover (N-key rollover ‘ boards aren’t compatible with the BIOS on some motherboards).

Offering your choice of Blue, Brown or Red Cherry MX switches and additional red, swappable WSAD and direction keycaps, this board is sure to appeal to plenty of gamers and will be particularly desirable for those looking to bypass the general software setup.

Verdict

A plug-and-play ‘board that suits a wide variety of gaming styles and won’t break the bank.
