ASUS RoG Centurion
Wireless headset at a high price.
For those who want the best, the ASUS RoG Centurion offers true 7.1 surround sound and just about every high-end feature you can image, albeit for an eye-watering $360. The headset is wired, but uses a USB connection, out to a very in-depth control hub. Not relying on virtual surround, the Centurion has five drivers (including a subwoofer) in each ear. It also uses a hi-fi grade headphone amplifier to ensure stellar results.
Despite being very large, and weighing a hefty 450g, the Centurion sits very comfortably, and even comes with different earpads for customised comfort. The headset uses ASUS’s Sonic Studio, which gives a huge range of customisation for those who like to fine tune their listening experience. While some of the deeper adjustments take a little time to get used to, generally it’s very well laid out and easy for beginners. The physical control hub adds another layer, with the ability to tweak the most important settings quickly. The result is surround sound that is very noticeably superior to virtual options, with excellent positional audio. The sound quality itself can be tricky to compare, as it can be adapted so readily, but overall the Centurion has great bass kick, with strong midrange, and crisp highs. The (detachable) microphone quality is also top notch, and the software does an excellent job at cancelling out environmental noise.
The RoG Centurion also incorporates a little bling, with controllable RGB LEDs and a handy stand to store the headset when not in use.
