Hello readers. I’m the new editor and it’s an honour and privilege to be here. Dan has been the editor of APC since June 2013, which, as it happens, was roughly the same time I took over as the editor of PC & Tech Authority magazine. For each and every month of those years since, we’ve been engaged in a friendly rivalry and it’s been good fun. I would studiously pore over each new issue of APC magazine to see what they were up to, and I respected and admired everything Dan and APC did.
It was a very friendly battle, with hardly a month passing when I didn’t bump into one of the APC team at an event and share a laugh about who had the nicest issue that particular month. Magazine making is an extremely satisfying craft and I worked hard with my team to make PCTA as good a PC mag could as it could be, as did Dan, here on this mag.
The truth is that APC and PCTA had an awful lot in common. Each strove to cover the ever changing tech landscape and keep you informed. We each went about our product testing in much the same way, and managed to come up with terrific guides to help you get the most from what you have. Thus, it makes undeniable sense that there be just one PC magazine in Australia in which we can focus our combined experience.
This is APC, and it always will be. It has always evolved, though at a civilised pace, and that’s not about to change. It’s a true legend of the publishing scene and it’s equally a very important part of many people’s lives, having provided outstanding reviews, guides, features and opinions since 1980. I was an early fan myself and read it religiously every single month in the late 1980s and early 90s when I was properly getting into computers. And now, here I am at the helm and it’s a wonderful feeling. I am humbled by APC’s legacy and proud to carry it on.
We’ve already made a couple of tweaks to the format. Nothing dramatic because this boat doesn’t need much rocking. From PCTA we’ve added the Market Watch and System News pages, and they live within a new PC Builder section. Many of the best PCTA writers can now be found in these pages, like Chris Szewczyk, Anthony Agius, Nick Ross, and Mark Williams, complementing the supreme team already in place.
It’s a true delight to be here and I hope our efforts please you – being the existing APC readers combined with those we welcome from PCTA. We’re all the same. We love the PC, we’re addicted to following its ever-fascinating evolution and to the future I say only good times are ahead. Do please feel free to reach out on any topic via my email below!
