“Try to keep your environment as clean as possible. Try to keep your pets away too, though that’s probably easier said than done! ”

Let’s finish off with some simple tips that will help you to maximise your gameplay experience. If you’re gaming online, use an Ethernet network connection wherever possible. Wi-Fi is convenient and mostly adequate but using it leads to an increased likelihood of random packet loss and latency spikes.

Use a simple FPS monitoring tool such as FRAPS or enable the Steam FPS counter (Steam Menu > Settings > In-Game). If you’re looking to hit 60FPS or even 120FPS with a high spec display, keeping an eye on the frames per second will indicate if you need to tweak your graphical settings to reach your desired figure, hopefully without having to drop the resolution!

Dust is your enemy! It gets into your system and can obviously seriously hinder the cooling perfor-mance of your laptop, leading to throttling and reduced FPS. Try to keep your environment as clean as possible. Try to keep your pets away too, though that’s probably easier said than done!

Lastly, we’ll reiterate what we covered on the first page. Temperature control is vital, not just from a longevity point of view, but also performance. A cool laptop is a better performing laptop. You don’t want to be throwing away free performance because your laptop is running a bit hot. With summer coming up fast, keep an eye on your temps!

ENOUGH READING. MORE GAMING!

Now that you’ve gotten your hands on your dream machine, take some time before firing up your first game (easier said than done, we know!). Taking the time to maximise your performance and optimize your settings will lead to a better gaming experience. We all want that butter smooth gameplay. In the end a few simple tweaks and bit of knowledge will help you reach that goal.
