Razer Nari Ultimate

Can you feel it in the ear tonight?

- Stephen Lambrechts

Aiming to bring some physicality to the game listening experience, Razer has released a unique pair of headphones that sends cranium-rattling haptic feedback directly to your ears and into your skull.

Surprisingly, Razer’s Nari Ultimate headphones offer an effect that’s nowhere near as annoying as you might assume — in fact, it’s rather wonderful, providing incredibly deep bass and an added level of immersion that may result in a tactical advantage during online play. Gunshots and footsteps are not only heard, but felt, meaning the listener gets a much clearer idea of where their opponent is coming from. This is all thanks to Razer’s Hypersense haptic technology, which is capable of translating sound effects and general audio into touch sensory feedback. The rumbling sensation offered by these oversized cans is somewhat intense, but you quickly get used to it. Before long, you’ll relish every boom

and crash in order to get the drop on your rivals. Of course, the headphones are also terrific for music listening (even if we wouldn’t be caught dead wearing these outside), with the cans’ 50mm drivers delivering deep, punchy sound with little to no distortion. A USB dongle is embedded within the Nari Ultimate’s right ear cup, which you can eject and plug into your PC, Mac or PS4 for three-dimensional THX Spatial Audio at a wireless range of up to 12 metres, and a 3.5mm cable for stereo sound is also included for those who wish to go direct to the source. You also have a retractable mic with controls to balance game and chat audio.

Verdict

Better than they have any right to be, delivering a totally new audio experience.
