GEAR CHECK: SW-MOTECH TÉNÉRÉ 700 WORLD RAID TANK BAG

-

Twin tanks. Twin filler caps. The fuel tank setup on the new Ténéré 700 World Raid makes fitting a tank bag tricky. But SW-Motech has the task covered by creating a specific Quick-Lock tank ring system mount for the World Raid that is dubbed the Tank Ring PRO.

Now have a look at it: it features a bracket that picks up mount points on each of the dual filler caps and positions the Tank Ring PRO mount in the centre of the bike behind and between the two filler caps.

Install the Tank Ring PRO and then you have a choice of SW-Motech’s extensive range of PRO Tank Bags.

We’ve gone for the PRO DayPack tank bag that offers between five and eight litres cubic capacity thanks to its expandable

design. It’s the perfect size to meet our primary task of carrying a D-SLR camera, and it isn’t outrageously big between your legs when standing and moving forward on the bike.

The mount ring on the base of the bag can be adjusted fore and aft to allow you to position the bag ‘just so’. The mount itself is super-clever and features some magic magnetic voodoo that means the bag almost ‘falls’ into place when you place it close to the tank ring and locks in securely.

To release the bag to gain access to the filler caps for refuelling is as easy as pulling on a drawstring on the front of the bag.

The PRO DayPack tank bag is made from 1680D ballistic nylon, features a water-resistant interior coating and comes with a rain cover. There are also cable feedthrough slots for powering and connecting devices, and the Molle strapping on the top allows you to add optional smartphone and tablet holders. You can also get optional zipper lock and anti-theft device and luggage cable locks.

We’ve already put this SW-Motech tank bag setup through a couple of thousand kilometres of use on the World Raid and all the initial impressions are positive. The bag sits securely in place and gives us quick and easy access to our camera gear. Meanwhile, being able to lock the bag to the tank ring gives added peace of mind while we’re parked up. — Clubby
