Practice makes perfect

When I heard the raucous, rasping calls I knew Victoria’s riflebirds were advertisin­g for females. For several years an adult male had been using this tree stump – near my home at Thornton Peak in the Daintree Rainforest – to perform its mating display. But it seemed that two juveniles (pictured) had found the same perch to practice for later life.
