A large ray endemic to southern Australia from eastern Victoria all the way to south-western WA. It is a bottom feeder preferring the ocean floor or seagrass habitats of the continenta­l shelf. A black-and-white variant of this species, which until recently was thought to be a different species, is found in large marine gulfs near Adelaide.
