THE LIMESTONE COAST

-

When to go

The region’s maritime climate makes it a year-round destination. Spring is great for both wildflowers and birdlife, while autumn often has the most stable weather for coastal camping.

Lively storms and squalls are a feature of the winter months.

Getting there

The Limestone Coast is roughly 400km from both Adelaide and Melbourne. More leisurely coastal drives to the region include the Princes Highway from Adelaide via the Coorong, and Victoria’s famed Great Ocean Road from Melbourne. Regional Express has regular flights to Mount Gambier from Adelaide and Melbourne.

Where to stay

Great bush and remote beachside camping is available on the coast. For bird lovers Bool Lagoon camping is hard to beat. The port towns all feature caravan park facilities, as well as motel-style accommodation and holiday rentals. With their heritage charm, both Robe and Penola have popular B&Bs.
