Outback Festival

19–23 September, Winton, QLD

-

IT MIGHT BE labelled weird and quirky by outsiders, but to the locals it’s simply the Outback Festival; an eclectic event that’s been drawing visitors since 1972. Held in Winton, central west Queensland, the festival is a blend of outback-themed events and traditional Aussie experiences, including whip-cracking championships, bushman’s egg throwing, strongman challenges and wool-bale rolling. Then there’s the True Blue Sports program that tests peculiarly Aussie sporting skills, such as kicking a footy and throwing a cowpat discus, as well as featuring the festival’s signature event, the Quilton Australian Dunny Derby.
