Although we’ve been con­di­tioned to fear sharks like this mag­nif­i­cent great white, pho­tographed in Spencer Gulf in South Aus­tralia by Alas­tair Pol­lock, our interactions with the ocean’s apex preda­tors are usu­ally far less com­mon – and far less likely to be fa­tal – than we’ve been led to be­lieve, says marine bi­ol­o­gist Blake Chap­man.
