LORD HOWE ISLAND

PROVIDENCE PETRELS RETURN, MTS GOWER AND LIDGBIRD

-

Lord Howe – a speck in the Pacific, 780km north-east of Sydney – is the only place providence petrels breed. From March, at least 32,000 breeding pairs begin arriving on the slopes of Mt Gower and Mt Lidgbird. Courtship flights, noisy calls and the fact they will land near and approach bushwalkers makes for an extraordinary experience on Little Island Track and Lower Road, up the difficult trek to Mt Gower.
