Sailing by the Sun and wind

-

A 83-year-old Max Tunbridge and two mates will set off in late March from Lyndhurst, south of Marree in South Australia, to sail a land yacht along the 600km, predominantly dirt, Strzelecki Track using nothing but the power of the wind and Sun. Max and fellow sailors Brenton Curran and Kevin Cook will take turns to pilot the home-built vehicle cle using mainly wind and switching ching to the power of the Sun when necessary. A set of solar lar panels has been rigged d up that will drive a wheel at the front of the yacht. The men hope to reach ach the finishing hing point at Innamincka three days after starting out. The track is heavily used by road trains servicing the oil and gas fields near Moomba, so the team will also drive two support vehicles, front and back, to ensure the yacht can proceed along the track in safety.
